The "once-in-a-hundred-year" flood struck, Guangdong Yingde was still soaked in the flood
Recently, many places in Guangdong Province have been affected by heavy rainfall for several days. The rainfall broke the historical record for the same period, and some areas along the main stream of the Beijiang River, the second largest water system in the Pearl River Basin, exceeded the warning line. At present, the flood peak in the Shaoguan area in northern Guangdong has passed, Yingde City in Qingyuan and many townships along the Lianjiang River are still soaked in the flood, and the cities downstream along the Beijiang River are in danger.
This is a flood disaster caused by the unexpected "Dragon Boat Water". "Dragon Boat Water" refers to the continuous and large-scale precipitation that occurs before and after the Dragon Boat Festival in South my country during the annual Xiaoman to Summer Solstice. Hao Nan, head of Zhuoming Disaster Information Service Center, told "China Philanthropist": "Dragon boat water basically occurs every year, but it is very rare to set a new record of precipitation this year. Judging from the flood level of previous years, It can basically be judged that this is a once-in-a-century flood.”
According to a report from the Guangdong Provincial Emergency Management Department on June 21, many places in Guangdong suffered from natural disasters such as torrential rains, floods and landslides due to heavy rainfall. As of 11:00 on the 20th, a total of 479,600 people in Shaoguan, Heyuan, Meizhou, Zhaoqing, Qingyuan and other places were affected, the affected area of crops was 27.13 hectares, and 1,729 houses collapsed.
According to Ms. Cao, who lives in Yuzui Village, Yuguan Town, Yingde City, the water suddenly rose. She recalled that this round of rainfall had been falling for nearly a month. "The water level suddenly rose on the 19th, and on the morning of the 20th, the water level receded a little bit, so I didn't take it too seriously. But it rose again that afternoon. By 9 a.m. on the 21st, the water had already filled the stairs on the first floor."
Only then did Ms. Cao realize that the flood was really coming. She and her family quickly moved the items on the first floor of the house to the second floor. The poultry raised in the yard were also moved to the balcony upstairs, and then they carried ten bags of rice with great difficulty. Before the rescue team arrived, Ms. Cao rushed to prepare lunch for her own kittens and dogs.
"We suffer from large and small floods almost every year, and I never thought it would be so serious this time," she told China Philanthropist.
Such severe floods are mainly caused by rounds of heavy rainfall. The rainfall along the Beijiang River and along the Lianjiang River, an important tributary of the Beijiang River, has exceeded the historical water level for the same period. "Except for Shaoguan and Yingde, which have attracted much attention, most of the help information we received throughout the day came from the Lianjiang River Basin, such as Buffalo Town and Xibian Town before the confluence, which were all very bad." Hao Nan said .
Besides Yingde, this "Dragon Boat Water" also caused disasters in other places. The "Dragon Boat Water" first flooded in Jiangxi. On June 20, Yushan County, Jiangxi Province broke the local hydrological record, causing more than ten townships along the Le'an River, a first-class mainstream river in the same place, to be severely damaged. floor height. In terms of rainfall intensity and degree of impact, the floods in Jiangxi are the same as those in northern Guangdong this time, but Jiangxi has experienced the No. 1 flood in 2020 on the Ganjiang River, and has a stronger ability to fight floods, and the downstream is the waters of Poyang Lake, which did not cause successive floods. big disaster. But Hao Nan told "China Philanthropist" that in fact, the materials there are currently very scarce, and this issue needs urgent attention.
